We are proud to announce that the 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro won the Mid-Size Pickup Truck of Texas Award at the 2016 Texas Auto Writers Association Texas Truck Rodeo. This is an annual event that brings together TAWA members to rate vehicles. Keep reading for more information on this event.
The rodeo took place at Longhorn River Ranch in Dripping Springs, TX. Over the course of two days a variety of on and off road tests were performed. There were 70 Texas Auto Writers Association members in attendance who test drove 82 vehicles and then voted on which ones they thought were performed best. When voting, they took into consideration the exterior styling, interior styling, off-road capability including utility, value, and performance.
The Texas Auto Writers Association members were especially impressed by the suspension, exhaust enhancements and off-road technology of the 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. Off-roading technology includes Crawl Control system, Multi-Terrain Select, Locking Rear Differential, Hill Start Assist Control and Active Traction Control. Powering this vehicle is a V6 Atkinson Cycle engine that produces 278 horsepower.
“As America’s best-selling mid-size pickup for ten years running, the recognition as Mid-size Pickup Truck of Texas confirms our vision of producing a truck that can tackle any off-road challenge,” said Mike Sweers, Toyota Tacoma chief engineer. “Toyota’s commitment to the new Tacoma TRD Pro was focused on meeting the needs of adventure-seekers where roads fear to tread, and we have proven that today.”
