The Toyota brand is excited to announce that they will be investing $1.33 billion into their Kentucky plant. This plant is the first in North America to produce vehicles using the Toyota New Global Architecture. The Toyota Camry will be the first Toyota brand vehicle made in the United States to fully incorporate the new vehicle development and production technology. Keep reading for additional information.
Toyota Kentucky is the brands largest plant in the world. It employs 8,200 people, 700 of which were added after the launch of the 2018 Toyota Camry. The 2018 Toyota Camry will be offered in four trim levels: LE, XLE, SE and XSE. The all-new base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder the produces 200 horsepower. The 3.5-liter V6 engine will produce 296 horsepower. These engine choices will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This is the first time the Toyota Camry will offer this transmission type. This vehicle will come with Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P). TSS-P includes safety technology like forward collision warning, automated emergency braking, full speed-range adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and mitigation, and automatic high-beam headlight control
“This $1.33 billion investment is part of Toyota’s plan to invest $10 billion dollars in the U.S. over the next five years, on top of the nearly $22 billion Toyota has invested in the U.S. over the past 60 years,” said Jim Lentz, CEO of Toyota Motor North America. “Toyota New Global Architecture is about exciting, ever-better vehicles for our customers as it will improve performance of all models, including increased fuel efficiency, more responsive handling, and a more stable, comfortable feel while driving.”
