The award ceremony took place in early November. The Toyota brand was specifically cited for forming the Toyota Research Institute, North America and making advances in hybrid technology and electric vehicle systems. A few of the technologies that were awarded were the dynamic wireless charging – allowing EV/PEV/Hybrid batteries to be charged while driving – and the traction inverters, increasing the efficiency of battery power in electric vehicles.
“As companies in the automotive industry transform themselves into broader mobility providers, no auto company better demonstrates innovation and technology for the future than Toyota,” said Jeff Makarewicz, senior vice president, Toyota Technical Center (TTC), Toyota’s North American research & development headquarters. “We’re focused on delivering great experiences for our customers, a cornerstone of Toyota’s product commitment, and this recognition is proof we’re living up to that promise.”
Beyond electric vehicle and hybrid technologies, the Toyota brand was recognized for two other technologies. These are automotive electronics power cooling as well as omnidirectional structural color. The Toyota brand was also honored for its thermal cooling advances on the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
