There were 12 vehicles in the running for this year’s World Green Car award. The judging panel is made up of 75 top-level automotive journalists from 23 countries around the world. Judges took into consideration tailpipe emissions, fuel consumption, and use of a major advanced power plant technology aimed specifically at increasing the vehicle’s environmental responsibility.
“It is a great honor to see the Prius Prime named World Green Car,” said Jack Hollis, group vice president and general manager of Toyota division. “For global automakers like Toyota, this award is a testament to our focus on developing products that both stir the emotions and meet the mobility needs of our customers in all corners of the world.”
This is the second year in a row that the Toyota brand has walked away with the World Green Car title. Last year the award was given to the Toyota Mirai. The Toyota Prius won the World Green Car title in 2010 as well as the Overall World Car. The Toyota Harrier Hybrid won the World Green Car award in 2006. So it is safe to say the Toyota brand is focused on and committed to making their vehicles as eco-conscience as they can be!
